This week you are going to learn some idioms in Spanish with the colour NEGRO. BLACK.
VERLO TODO NEGRO
It means not having much hope, having doubts and being a little pessimistic about a situation.
Por ejemplo: No creo que me den el trabajo en el periódico…lo veo un poco negro.
Money that is obtained from illegal work or that we do not declare to the government. Black money, dirty money.
We use this expression to say that we are fed up with something or someone.
TENER “LA NEGRA”
It means having bad luck.
The black genre (in literature, cinema, theater …) is the police, crime genre. Thriller.
SER LA OVEJA NEGRA
That person who is different from others (within a group of friends or family) and who is usually problematic. Black sheep.

TRABAJAR EN NEGRO
Work without declaring it to the government and receiving black money.
Humour that finds fun in situations that from another perspective are not due to being dramatic, violent or sad. Black humour.
Unknown person or group responsible for an act (usually criminal).

The origin of the expression comes from an anarchist and violent organization in southern Spain (La Mano Negra) that never really existed and was an excuse for the government to stop revolts in Andalusia.
